Gregory Little posted this recently:
In the Preface of his 1905 book, Prehistoric Relics, Warren Moorehead related that there are "7500 collectors of archaeological specimens" in the US. These are a couple of them. It wasn't a "good" thing; most of these artifacts came from mounds.
